Tips For Frugal Living
If you happen to be saving up for a big down payment or a dream vacation, you're likely pinching pennies wherever you can. Frugality is a way of life. Thankfully, there are ways to cut costs while still living a fulfilling life. We've compiled some categories below where you can potentially cut some costs.
Cell Phone
Check into how many minutes of talk time and internet service you actually use. If you're not using up your 5,000 texts a month, it might be time to drop to a cheaper plan.
Home Phone
If you still have one of these, there's really no need if you have cell phones.
Cable
We know you're addicted to HGTV, but there are less expensive ways to watch your favorite shows. Hulu.com and Netflix offer some great alternatives.
Gym
Do you actually use your membership? If so, it might be worth it. If you don't, cut your losses and walk or jog with the neighbors.
Medicine
Switch to generic versions of your prescriptions if they're available.
Cars
Oil changes can be done in your own garage. But if that's out of your league, you can at least wash your own car (or have your kids do it for you)!
Electricity
Most of us know to turn off the lights when you leave a room. Have you thought of dialing down your water heater or opening the windows instead of running the AC?
Insurance
Call your representative to see if there are any discounts or more affordable rates available to you. Check out their competition, as well.
Subscriptions
We know how much you value your wine of the month club, but you could likely get some of your favorite Merlot cheaper at the grocery store. Unless that magazine or club subscription is absolutely necessary, it might be time to trim the fat.
Remember, being frugal is a state of mind. Seek to find places where you can cut back. Every little bit helps!
